Pinterest is a traffic channel, not a social feed
Pinterest behaves more like a visual search engine than a social network. A Jaipur block-print brand, a Bengaluru interior designer or a Mangaluru recipe blogger pins images that link back to their website, and the pins keep sending visitors for months. Indian D2C brands in fashion, decor, weddings and food use it for steady referral traffic.
Followers matter less here than on Instagram, but a profile with very few followers and no saves on its pins looks untested to anyone who lands on it.
What to order
Repins (saves) are the most useful Pinterest signal. They show that people found a pin worth keeping, and they help a pin get shown again. Followers make the profile look established. Board followers suit curated boards like “Bridal lehenga ideas” or “Small balcony gardens” that you want to grow on their own.
Links
Followers need your profile link (pinterest.com/yourname). Repins and likes need the pin link (pinterest.com/pin/…). Board followers need the board link. Short pin.it links are fine. Business and personal accounts both work.
Keep expectations practical
Pinterest traffic comes from good images with clear titles and descriptions, so paid saves are a nudge, not a substitute. Pin consistently: ten fresh pins a week does more than one big order.
Example: a decor brand
A Jodhpur furniture exporter starts a Pinterest business account with 40 product pins. It adds a few hundred followers and saves on its ten best pins, those with clean backgrounds and clear titles, so the account doesn't look brand new to interior designers browsing for sourcing ideas. Then it keeps pinning new stock weekly, which is what actually builds the traffic.
Pinterest as a search engine for Indian shops
People treat Pinterest like Google for ideas: “mehendi designs simple”, “saree blouse back neck”, “small balcony garden ideas”. Pins keep getting traffic for months, unlike Instagram posts that fade in two days. That's why Indian home decor, jewellery and recipe blogs use it to drive website clicks. Write keyword-rich pin titles, link each pin to the exact product or post, and use repins and saves on your best pins so they look worth saving to new visitors.
