Two kinds of Spotify service
Spotify services fall into two groups. Followers, for artist profiles and playlists, don't add streams, so they carry the least risk. Plays, monthly listeners, saves and playlist or podcast plays all work by streaming, which means Spotify's artificial streaming rules apply to them in full.
Spotify removes artificial streams, pays no royalties on them, and since 2024 charges labels and distributors a fee per track when artificial streaming on that track is significant. Distributors can remove releases and withhold earnings in response.
What's cheapest and what costs more
Plays are usually the lowest price per 1,000, followed by followers. Monthly listeners and saves cost more because they need many separate accounts. Targeted options, such as US, UK or Brazilian listeners, cost several times more than mixed options.
Tiers
Most Spotify services have Starter, Stable and Premium options. Starter is cheapest and drops most when Spotify filters activity. Stable is spread more naturally. Premium uses the options that hold best. The list shows the lowest price; open any service to compare tiers.
How Indian artists usually spend
Artists who use the panel at all usually spend on artist followers once, when a profile looks empty next to their Instagram, and then put the rest of their budget into real promotion: Instagram and YouTube ads, creators using the track in Reels, and pitching through Spotify for Artists. That's the spending pattern we'd recommend.
What we'd avoid
We'd avoid plays, monthly listeners and saves on any release that is under a label deal, being pitched to editorial playlists, or earning royalties you depend on. The savings on promotion aren't worth losing the release.
