The price is the smallest part of the cost
Spotify plays are cheap per thousand compared with what's at stake. Since 2024, Spotify has charged labels and distributors per track when it detects significant artificial streaming, and distributors may pass that charge on or remove releases. Spotify also excludes artificial streams from royalties and can remove play counts. A cheap order that triggers those consequences is very expensive.
What changes the price
Account type (free versus Premium), listening length per play, delivery speed and geography. Plays that look like natural listening, spread over days, from varied locations and lasting well over 30 seconds, cost more and carry less risk than cheap bursts. Prices were last updated 24 Oct 2026.
Typical spends
5,000 plays cost ₹245 on the default option. Independent artists who use plays at all usually put a modest amount on one focus track over a week or two, often to move it past the point where Spotify shows a public play count, and avoid ordering on every release.
Where the money is better spent
Pitching every release to Spotify's editors through Spotify for Artists costs nothing. A ₹300–₹500 Instagram or YouTube ad for your hook clip, targeted at fans of similar Indian artists, brings real listeners who save the song, which feeds Release Radar and Discover Weekly. A pre-save campaign turns fans into followers. These build an audience; plays don't.
No hidden charges
The price shown is what leaves your wallet, with no GST, gateway fee or conversion added at checkout. Top up by UPI from ₹100. Plays we don't deliver are refunded to your wallet. Plays Spotify removes after delivery can't be refunded, because removal happens on Spotify's side.
Example
A Dehradun singer-songwriter's single sits at a few hundred streams. She orders 1,500 plays over a week on the default option and spends the same amount again on a small Reels ad for the chorus. The ad brings real listeners who save the track. When she checks Spotify for Artists a month later, the saves, not the plays, are what got the song into a couple of algorithmic playlists.
