Why followers matter on Spotify
Your follower count is shown at the top of your artist page, and it's one of the first things playlist curators, venue bookers and labels check. Real followers also receive your new releases in their Release Radar playlist. An artist page with 9 followers makes even a good song look like it came from nowhere; at 1,000+, the page looks like an artist people keep up with.
Artist profiles and playlists
Followers work on artist profiles (open.spotify.com/artist/…) and on public playlists (open.spotify.com/playlist/…). Playlist curators use followers to make a playlist look worth submitting to and worth listening to. Check that the option you pick supports the link type you have.
Keep it in proportion
An artist with 1,000 followers usually shows at least a few hundred monthly listeners and tracks with visible play counts. If your songs sit under 1,000 plays, add plays to your main track so the page looks consistent.
Gradual delivery
On the default option, 1,000 followers arrive over about under an hour. Steady growth looks more natural than a jump in a day, and Spotify counts can update with a delay.
Example
A Pune classical-fusion violinist has released four tracks and plays weddings and corporate events. Her artist page shows 35 followers, and event planners who find her on Spotify assume she's new. She orders 1,000 followers, adds plays to her best track and updates her artist bio and photos through Spotify for Artists. Planners now see a profile that matches her live reputation.
