Trading on Telegram in India
Telegram hosts thousands of Indian channels about the stock market: Nifty and Bank Nifty levels, options strategies, IPO updates, swing trade ideas, market news and education. Some are run by SEBI-registered research analysts and advisers; many are not. Investors often judge a channel by its member count, which is exactly why inflated numbers in this space can do real harm.
SEBI's rules come first
Under SEBI's regulations, anyone who gives investment advice for a fee must be registered as an Investment Adviser, and anyone publishing research reports or buy-sell recommendations must be registered as a Research Analyst. SEBI has acted against unregistered Telegram channels and finfluencers, and since 2024 its rules bar registered intermediaries from associating with unregistered people giving advice or claiming returns. Paid tip channels without registration are illegal.
Never mislead investors
Don't use member counts, reactions or views to make tips look more trusted than they are. Never post fake profit screenshots or guaranteed returns. People lose real money following channels that look popular. We'd only use members for an educational or registered channel that's genuinely new.
What we'd order, if anything
1. A modest number of members for a new educational or SEBI-registered channel.
2. Post views in proportion to members, so posts don't look unread.
3. Nothing that suggests a track record you don't have.
Disclosures to include
If you're registered, show your SEBI registration number in the channel description and every paid offering. If you're not, state clearly that you're not a SEBI-registered adviser, that content is educational only, and that readers should consult a registered adviser. Add market risk disclaimers to posts about specific stocks.
Example: a registered research analyst
A SEBI-registered research analyst in Ahmedabad starts a free Telegram channel for market education, with his registration number in the description. The channel has 200 members from his newsletter. He orders 1,000 members and adds views to his daily market-structure posts. Real readers join from his YouTube channel, and paid research subscriptions go through his registered website, not Telegram.
Grow with education
Channels that explain concepts, such as how options Greeks work, how to read a balance sheet or why risk management matters, build trust that lasts. Readers share educational content more than tips.
Telegram's rules
Telegram prohibits spam and fake accounts, and removes accounts it flags. Keep numbers believable.
Views and members
A trading channel with 50,000 members and 400 views per post looks inflated to experienced traders. Keep views in proportion.
Public channel
Members go to a public channel with a t.me link. Some options accept private invite links.
Delivery
Members join gradually, starting within 0-15 min. Some may drop as Telegram removes accounts.
Budget
Keep spending small. Top up by UPI; undelivered quantity is refunded automatically.
Privacy
We never ask for your Telegram login or admin rights. Only the public link is used.
Our position
We won't help a tips channel look more trustworthy than it is. For genuine educational or registered channels, a small order to look less empty is fine; trust has to be earned with honest content.
Watch for scams using your name
Popular trading channels are often cloned by scammers who copy the name and photo and ask members to pay for 'VIP' groups. Pin a message saying you'll never DM members for money, use a recognisable username, and report fake channels to Telegram. Protecting your readers protects your reputation.
